History
The GeoInformatics for Spatial-Infrastructure Development in Earth & Allied Sciences (GIS-IDEAS) Journal, hereafter referred to as "The GIS-IDEAS Journal," traces its origins to the biennial international conference organized under the aegis of the Japan-Vietnam Geoinformatics Consortium (JVGC) since 2002. Over the past two decades, the GIS-IDEAS Conference has provided a platform for knowledge sharing, valuable experience exchange, and fostering collaborations related to GeoInformatics technologies among students, researchers, and practitioners from Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries. Since August 1, 2024, JVGC has adopted a new name as the Association of GeoInformatics Laboratories for Earthsciences (AGILE) and co-hosted the GIS-IDEAS 2024 and FOSS4G-Asia 2024 conferences.
The GIS-IDEAS Conference is organized in collaboration with premier institutions across Asia, and its proceedings have been published in the form of Conference Proceedings, Special Issues of academic journals, and Lecture Notes by reputed publishers. These conferences have been co-organized with leading academic and research institutions such as Can Tho University (Vietnam), Danang University of Education (Vietnam), Japan Geotechnical Consultant Association (Japan), Japan Society of Geoinformatics (Japan), Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (Vietnam), Hanoi University of Natural Resources & Environment (Vietnam), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam), Kyoto University (Japan), Naresuan University (Thailand), Osaka City University (Japan), Osaka Metropolitan University (Japan), Phayao University (Thailand), Vietnam National University (Vietnam), and others.
